5 Tips on What to Wear for Your Boudoir Photo Shoot
Getting in front of a stranger in your undies is intimidating even for the most confident woman. Deciding what to wear for your boudoir session shouldn’t be stressful.
Fully clothed, partially clothed, or implied nudity can all be sexy. It’s important that you plan your clothing items around what your comfort level is. I want to share with you five quick tips on picking out what to wear when your planning your session.
- Bring your favorites you already own. This can be lingerie or something completely different. Women have brought his button down shirt or sports jersey, Fire Fighter gear and even their lab coats! Making these photos reflect what is important to you is key to creating great shots. Also, remember you can ask me ask questions when we have your pre shoot consultation and all the way up to your session.
- Purchase new specifically for your shoot. If you plan on shopping, make sure you’ve tried the clothing on, moved around, and love it. Don’t wait until you get dressed for your shoot to try something on for the first time. You may find it’s the wrong size or you just don’t like how it fits on you. You will look the sexiest when you feel confident and good about yourself.
- Do’s and Don’ts when you choose what to bring. Over the years, the favorite outfit choices have remained the same. If you love lingerie, a sexy black bra and panty set and a cute corset with a great pair of high heels are a perfect start. When selecting outfits, think about what colors look good on you. If those high heels are too much to wear for any length of time, still bring them as you only need them on for the photo and can then take them off. We do suggest staying away from panties that have thin elastic at the waist as that makes bumps above and below the top of the panty.
- Variety is the spice of life, and your photos! When a woman asks me how many outfits she is allowed to bring, I tell her the more you bring, the more options you have. Because our shoots are normally all day events, having more to choose from lets you make changes if something just doesn’t fit right or photograph well. My suggestion is bring 5 to 10 outfits; you can usually add something from our studio wardrobe closet if needed as well. Normally we will get through 5 or 6 outfits, depending on the type of shoot and complexity of the shots.
- Don’t forget accessories and props. Now that you’ve picked out your clothes, don’t forget to bring along accessories like jewelry, scarves, hats, high heels, boots, gloves, stocking, garter belts, military tags or whatever items it is that have special meaning to you. Many women coming in to do sessions for their military spouse will bring a framed picture they can set on the table at the side of the bed.
Take the time to pick out outfits you love that make you feel beautiful. Find the things that mean the most to you and to him that will make you smile when you look at these photos in 20 years and have the “remember when” talks and laughs. This day is all about you and it is going to be amazing!

There s so many different outfit ideas for your boudoir session. You can go the traditional route of wearing lacy lingerie and barely-there underwear, or you can go for a more casual and comfy look with sweaters, t-shirts and his clothing. You can dress up the plainest set of underwear with plenty of accessories, such as shawls, robes, stockings, garters, heels and jewelry. Props can turn an innocent pose into an R-rated pose. Be creative with your outfit choices and keep in mind that your hair, makeup and accessories can change your look entirely. And remember if you re still not sure what to wear, your boudoir photographer will be able to help.
